These were taken from a tour boat that approached within 100 yards of the glacier, an awesome experience. Yes, the glacier really is that shade of blue (caused by high compression that captures all color in the spectrum except blue).

A really interesting shade of blue! How thick is the face of that glacier?

Awesome shots!..I especially love the first one but the second one gives us a nice close up. The colour is beautiful. I am not a fan of the cold weather being an Aussie, but to see something like that, I think I could put up with it for a little while...Beautiful!

That trip was one of my favorite trips we took in Alaska. It was so cold the day we were there and the sky was gray. The color of the ice was amazing. Good job on the photos.

Thanks for all the comments. As to how high the face is, it would be hard to come up with an accurate guess from the distance we were from it. I'd say 50-100 feet, but it could be more.

Easy a hundred feet just as the edge of the face, deeper as you go inland. It reminds me of the Columbia Icefields in Alberta. Wicked cool!!!! And cold if you were to fall into a crevace.
The ice reflects off the sun and sky, so it enhances it to be blue. I always use a Hoya Moose filter which is a combination Polarizer to enrich the blueness in the sky, and a warming filter which does a little color correction to take some blue out of the ice.

I appreciate the additional comments. My belief is that retirement is for doing the things you enjoy. For me that is travel and photography (at least in public). Living in a motorhome makes it a lot easier to go to wonderful places, and we're headed for Colorado in just a few days.
