I went to Pala Raceway today to practice with my 7D. This is the first time I've been out with it doing motorsports. I've got more out of focus shots than I'd like, but I think I can work through it. I'm going to try slow burst mode next time and see if it tracks better.
Overall I'm very happy. I've got a helluva lot to learn and I plan on enjoying every minute of it.

I think I saw Grant Langston out there testing a Suzuki, but I'm not sure yet if it was him. Anyone know if this is him?

Great shots, 4 and 6 for me. 7 seems a little too cropped to the right i think.

Thanks. You're right on 7.
Think I'll wait to hit up the vodka 'til AFTER I'm done cropping. :D

A bit washed out, eh? I'm a total n00b and that was my first day out with the 7D, I was trying to get a setting that would let me turn around into the sun and still get decent detail.
The best setting I could get it with was in Gimp, not the 7D.

Yeah I was also wondering why you'd be shooting ISO 1600 in that bright light.
I would think you'd easily still be able to freeze the action, at no higher than iso 400, and an aperture around F/8.
Play with multiple settings next time you're out. You got some nice shots though

Put it in tv mode and set your shutter speed at 1/400-1/800 with you ISO at or around 400.
There is a lot of noise in these, something the 7d is supposed to be pretty solid with.

Thanks. I'm covering an amateur FMX competition on Sat and have an interview/photo shoot with a young FMX team on Sunday, so I'll give those settings a try.
I just got back from Calumet picking up a rental 70-200L. Probably not the best idea considering there's a very good chance I'll be buying one if it's half as good as I think it will be. (Shhh, don't tell the wife.) :D

I agree, #5 looks painful. Also I have to agree with zelseman, put the cam in TV mode and set your shutter at 1/400. This will be quick enough to freeze the bike and rider petty well and still give you some background and wheel motion blurr if your panning with them.
