Went to my nephew's baskball game today, so I thought I'd try sport shooting. Mainly use my 50/1.8 and 85/1.8. It took a bit to get use to shooting the fast-paced shooting and finding the right shutter speed. Focusing was also a challenge, but it was a learning experience.
Any comments or suggestions welcome.

These would look great if they were cropped a bit and maybe sharpened slightly... Just my opinion tho!

Shoot from the baseline. That's where you get all the good stuff. Especially since you have that 50mm f/1.8. It's useful down there.

its basketball seasons somewhere? whoa...haha
leave everything at home, take the 50mm, get close...the 50 is good from the baseline, closer to the rim, 85 is great from the corners or under the rim shooting the 3pt corners ect...
if you are getting 1/1250 @ f1.8 you can probably close the aperture a little...have some shutter speed to play with for most situations.

Nice pictures. I can tell that it was dark in there.

That must be a nice bright gym... especially compared to those that I've encountered in the UK!
You've got the camera and the prime lenses to get some seriously good shots - blinking8s certainly knows his way around a basketball court and I'd agree 100% with his suggested shooting positions.
Don't be afraid to shoot nice and tight - with the light levels you're blessed with the AF should do a very good job in keeping up with the action. Try to capture the players coming towards you so you can see their faces - and work from a lower position to increase the impact of the images - again this often works better from the baseline.
Good luck and post some more shots soon. The season here doesn't start again for 2 or 3 months yet... can't wait!
