In between thunderstorms and torrential hailstones the sun actually shone for most of the game yesterday. Been very lucky with the weather so far this season, only one really wet Saturday from the start of the season. Long may it continue.
Heres a few from our home fixture against Crusaders from Belfast.

heres my take on the shots for what its worth..
1 no ball in the shot I usually delete stuff like this, the other 2 are ok but fall far from being great shots as was said above.... but i dislike the square crop was it a 300 lens,- but then i dislike all square crops as the viewfinder is not square- just my feeling on square crops...thanks for posting

Thanks for the comments guys. Honestwords, not sure what you mean by "square crops", they're cropped to the edge of the action. I used to delete no-ball shots too, but after examining media shots over a period of time soon realised that if the close up shows sufficient action they'll use it, and they have.

I do agree with HW on the first as it doesn't tell me the story much and if there's no ball, then I need a little more. The second one is solid but I'd tweak your horizon slightly and warm it a bit as the WB seems cooler than it should be, The third is fantastic! Face, action., exposure, sharpness....there's nothing at all I'd change. HW may not like the crops but I don't see how that detracts from the images in any way.
HW, I'd love to hear your input as to why the other two are just okay but not fantastic. A comment like that with no suggestion as to improvement (apart from your dislike of the crop) really gives the OP nothing to think about.

Not over keen on no 1 because of the lack of a ball but the other 2 are just great shots

Well they are not really great shots...... they are typical footie shots - they are excuted well, very well but Great is a word that is to readily given to good shots - they are sharp but not really sharp just look that the difference in the first shot which is really sharp.
one other thing that stops them from being Great is the cut of head of the player in the BG in the 2nd one it would have been better if he was not there at all or his head was in the image .... But they are good images not saying they are not they show that the photographer has good timing and a good understanding of what is needed for good sports shots, but they are not great...
Just about you comment of what appears in papers I talk to guys all the time that moan that their work has been cut to bits by papers no ball in the shot when its there, arms legs cut off... What we see in the papers is not or alot of the time is not what the photographer took.
On the crop sorry I just dont like square crops i prefer the 6x4 8x6 soforth when a crop is need i always try keep the ratio .. not saying you should or never crop to the square just saying what I find most visually pleasing, Ill end by saying what i said in my first post Nice shots......
