Taken directly into the sun with the 17~40L stopped down to f22 always gives this sat burst effect must be the way that the iris is made ?, anyway comments welcome
Canon EOS1DMK2, 17~40L zoom, 1/640 sec @ f22

I can't help but feel that this shot should have a large warning "kids, don't try this at home"! Pointing a camera straight at the sun without a special filter could do damage to both the camera and the photographer's eyeball - especially as the lens will normally be at f/4. Perhaps you just have a very dim sun in Yorkshire?

Yes you are quite correct i should have mentioned that, i did use a grey grad filter that took the sting out of it, but this type of shot should be taken with care, thanks for pointing it out
