Hello all

Just had this lens a while and been practising taking detail shots of flowers , shoes, perfume etc for wedding brides.

What setting do you find work the best for this , I have been getting some very mixed results with this lens , bcos I think I am using the wrong aperture, and also trying to handhold this lens is proving difficult, so was thisnking to get a table top tripod.

Can I just have your thoughts on this as heard great write-ups on the lens from sharpness point of view, but I am yet to utilise its potential.

Your thoughts greatly appreciated.

tripod is a must for most macro, also using the self timer say for flower heads that wont fly away :) stops any camera movment .

Macro really needs small apertures to get reasonable focus depth.Of course small apertures limit the amount of light getting to the sensor/film so the camera selects an appropriate low shutter speed to compensate.
This means alot of macro photography allways tends to need a tripod for good results.

If the subject is stationary, a tripod and cable release is very helpful. If you're trying to get critters in the wild, they won't wait for you to set up a tripod. If there isn't enough light to get a suitable shutter speed, a flash could be used in some situations to stop motion.

I'll add to the list. For sharp macro shots you need a tripod, cable release and mirror lock up.

To get enough depth of field you will have to use small apertures, which means slow shutter speeds. You can reduce camera vibration at slow speeds by using mirror lock up.
