MARIE
I have had high winds topple 75 ft cedar trees onto and over the top of our lakeside log cabin that sits 25 ft above and 45 degress back from a mountain lake. Yup.. "that day" I saw my share of "roots" !
But I love the light that you offer in this image. >>
Post this again in the "Irish Spring" and I will look for 4-leaf clovers!

thanks a lot Howie
would love to have seen a picture of those massive roots you mention, however the camera would have been the last thing on your mind I guess
seems lucky you weren't buried alive
I presume that log cabin still stands
it sounds like a beautiful spot
soon you'll be off to it again.
( and 'log on' : )

Yes a beautiful spot. I was in town at the time.
This is bush country. Even so, a neighbour called to ask if I had a tree that over-spanned the cottage roof. I said no, then drove the 1.5 hrs to check things out.
As it turned out, two 75 ft babies (probably 200 years old) had blown down (as had several other big Tamaracks elsewhere along the shoreline). You see, their roots do not grow forward into the lake itself, so the right forces, etc can bring themn down! What saved the cabin was the 45 degree slope that leads to the water. The falling trees just hit the slope.
Even so, they were so tall that when fallen, they reached 75 feet up the slope and over the pourch where they split my double 2in x 8in horizontal joists supporting the roof. That was an easy fix for "Elmer's Wood Glue and my 5 ton hydraulic jack! But I had to call for help from father and sons in the village to chainsaw ( I refuse to play with these lethal babies) the trees themselves.
Yup, we get some wild storms in them-thar-Gatineay-hills.
Thanks Marie

that was some experience howie
thanks for saying all, its most interesting
lucky no one got hurt as it could have happened while you slept
the trees must be massive around and about the cabin.
I suppose the chain saws lethel sounds were echoing for days around those hills
( end result.... plenty of logs )
