Just wondering if anyone knowledgeable on Nikon lenses could help me out!

My girlfriend is also into photography, however she has a Nikon D40 and she has expressed interest in macro photography after I showed her my EF 100 2.8, and I would like to get her a macro lens for Christmas this year... could anyone recommend a decent one thats not too pricey?

Also what kind of mount would her D40 use? I want to make sure the lens would be compatible with her camera, kind of like FD vs EF for Canon, is there a difference in Nikon lens mounts?

Thanks,

Christian

Is AF important? If it is then she will need a AF-S lens.

yeah I think she would want AF...

Are AF-S lenses the only auto focus ones?

I just went to B&H, typed in "Nikon macro" and this came up: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/545660-USA/Nikon_2177_AF_S_Micro_Nikkor_60mm_f_2_8G.html

Pretty much the same as Canon's EF-S 60 macro. I think Tamron has a 90mm macro that is decent, you could look at that if she would prefer the longer focal length like yours?
