Same 2 shots (one exposed for clouds, one for moon) But I let PSE do the first one, I did the second, Increased fill light so the corners were not so dark, and left some clouds over the moon.

Very sweet the first one! The effects work well.would make a super poster.

That first shot is great. The second shot would be good were it not for the fact that the clouds really obscure the moon.
Very nice!

I like the original 1st pic. I think the latest version is getting a little too bright. I like the darkness of night around the first one.

Worse - I think this one looks contrived.

Yeah the 1st one original is the best. I might like it more if it had a tighter crop.

I like the first one best to, now. I am just learning PSE, came from DPP. Its like, wow look what Happens when I do this. But after a few days, I tend to like my originals better.

Much worse. Looks so photoshopped with that dark ring (of a bad selection) around the moon.
And COMPOSE the frame! Rule of Thirds, anything(!) is better than in the freakin' middle.

I like #1 centered, and I only say centered as the light fades away through the clouds in a ring.

The dark ring was actually in the sky.

Thats insane. So the moon has an atmosphere? Or some other repellant of clouds 200,000 miles away? I used to shoot eclipses and at best this looks like some ecliptic event.

1st one is the winner by miles for me. Like others said, perhaps a tighter crop might improve it slightly but that's up to you.

the first one is excellent. love the look of the clouds and the way the light is reflecting on them

Luckily we can disagree and still apreciate the photo. I like it as is, the rules be damned on this one for me:D

I think the OP is talking about the first photo, and the dark ring of clouds?

Had someone told me 50 years ago that I would some day be caught up in a worldwide discussion about shooting the moon, I would have said, you're nuts!
