Windows 7 and Canon Software

I just bought a new laptop computer with Windows 7. What I want to know is does anyone know if the Canon install disks that came with my XSi in June 2008 will work in Windows 7.

I was thinking there was a 3rd CD, but I am unable to find it right now :(

Should there be a 3rd CD??

There is a compatibility list here somewhere,check with search and if you've got the 'Pro edition of W7 it has XP mode in it.

I don't know why you would be out of luck....I am running Win 7 HP 64 and all the Canon software works like a charm. They did recommend uninstalling and reinstalling....but that was the only bump in the road. Just go here and get the latest updates.....the Vista ones work fine for me. EDIT: Should I first load from the CD before running the updates? Or can I run the updates without using the CD versions?

It depends on whether you are running a 32 bit or 64 bit version of windows.

Check the forum that Mike suggested...that should clear up all your questions. I suspect that since you are upgrading from XP that your system is probably set up for
32 bit. So the plain Vista drivers would be the ones to try.

If you go to Control Panel>System it will tell you whether it is 32 or 64 bit. My guess is that you are on a 32 bit system but check there and it will tell you.

Wow! For buying a brand new computer, I really got a VERY OLD operating system! Or maybe that would be considered a typo :o

My Laptop computer says: "System Type: 64-bit Operating System" I also would have thought I got a 32 bit. This should be a bit better anyway. I suspect there is a LOT of my old programs that just will not work on this new system, perhaps as much as 90% ? I am just guessing here.

32 bit programs run just fine on 64-bit OS. I have a ton of them on mine. The only things that don't work well are games.

Click the windows logo (start button), right click Computer, and select properties. 4th entry under System will tell you.

And unless you are running some really old, not updated software, you should not have a problem. 32bit software that won't run under 64bit is a rarity.
