Hi there, I'm new to this forum and I just purchased a Digital Rebel XT and I was wondering which color space to use? Adobe or sRGB ? I mostly shoot landscape photot and Im getting ready to go to the Rockies shooting next weekend. I think the Adobe color space has more dynamic range ? Any ideas on which would be best to use ?
Thanks,

Depends on what you going to do with the output. My lab (a very good one, many pro's uses it) says that sRGB is very underrated and their outputs don't cover the full range of Adobe RGB anyway, so he don't see any use to use it, unless the customer perfers it. They will convert the files to their color range anyway to fit their different machines.

I think the Adobe has a wider color gamut, but also requires more post processing (in my opinion). I prefer the result from a properly processed Adobe RGB photo. If you're not into post processing, then maybe sRGB is more for you.

Now I'm confused. I'm fixing to leave on a cruise, shooting raw, variety of shots, which setting would be best for me ? srgb or adobe ?

Here is a long thread about which colorspace to use.

When the colorspace is set to Adobe, and the camera is using RAW+JPG, is the JPG in "Adobe" profile or does it cover it to sRGB?

If you're shooting raw, the color space setting doesn't matter, since the profile is applied only when the raw file is converted. Of course, you still have to worry about it when doing the raw conversion, but then you can change you mind as often as you want.

I recommend you leave the camera set to sRGB in case you take any jpegs. But bear in mind that the RAW file will also be tagged internally with that colour-space. When you open it on your computer and specify "Adobe RGB", you may get a warning that the image you're converting is using a different colour space. It's not a valid message since (as Webster says) you don't have a colour space in RAW. The warning can be safely ignored and turned off permanently.
