Hi all,
Just in case anyone else is interested. Ebuyer (www.ebuyer.co.uk) are selling the 20D for £735.73 plus the dreaded V.A.T in the UK. I sold my 300D last week and have just ordered one. It should be delivered on Tueday, I shall have to have the day off work to play with it (learn to use it).

Can't wait.

Not sure,i read the reviews on e buyer and alot of the complaints state the goods are NOT UK specs.Have a read of this page, http://www.pricerunner.co.uk/retailer/3956/reviews , i know people are quicker to complain than praise so maybe unbalanced anyway.
Good luck, let us know how you get on.

I bought my 20D for e-buyer and then found from this site that it's probobly an import:mad:
So I regestered it with Canon and all seems well.
They delivered my camera within days ,but I have ordered stuff that takes a while.
I would tread carefully if I where you.

Hello,

I wonder if you'd mind saying how much you managed to get for your 300D and whether you had much difficulty in selling it for a decent price?

I'm happy with my 300D for the time-being but may well eventually upgrade to either a 20D or its successor.

Regards, David

Likewise I would be curious to know for similar reasons - be happy to receive PM if you don't want to post this info..

Not specifically a camera but I've had two A3 printers from Ebuyer and a myriad of other PC related goods with excellent delivery and no problems at all. That 20D price is quite tempting as a 2nd body too I must say..........

A quick search on Ebay completed listings suggests that people out there are prepared to pay in the region of £410 + postage for a used 300D with kit lens.

Jessops would pricematch against e-buyer, so I'd recommend to get cameras from Jessops.

Thanks for all your comments, I will let you know when it arrives.

I sold my 300D lens kit for 450GBP after checking with Jessops who offered 219GBP.

My local Jessops will only price match with deals from normal retail stores and not internet prices.

ebuyer do sell grey imports. i think they scrubbed the reviews users left on the site as lots of them were rather disgruntled buyers who couldn't get cover with canon UK...

Ebuyers web site says my order has been dispatched and the link to the carrier says that it is in their system, so it should arrive as scheduled.
When it arrives, how will I know if I have bought a 'grey import' ?
If I have, what future problems am I likely to have, warranty etc.
The company does have an opt-out clause, I can return my order for a refund provided the items are returned in unused condition.
Am I worrying for no reason?
Canon UK are responsible for any of their products purchased anywhere in the EU. and used in the UK.
The camera was made in the same factory as all other 20D cameras.
Ebuyer offer a 12 months warranty on all the items they sell.
And lastly I got the camera at a low price.

When you say you sold your 300D lens kit, do you mean with the grip or just camera body and kit lens? I'm interested, as I'd like to know what I could expect to get for my black kit with lens and grip.

I just bought my 20D from a Canadian seller for £658, plus £85 shipping and insurance, plus the likely VAT I'll suffer: £873 - WITH THREE YEAR WARRANTY.

I'm not going to be able to concentrate through the rest of my exams now! Probably was a bad idea...

If anyone's interested on who the seller is - ask

UK might be OK but my Neighbour just got conned out of $1850 aus , by an Italian mob dealing on eBay, He was a bit stupid and sent them Western Union CASH, something eBay tells You NOT to do, a very costly exercise.

I would be very tempted indeed to sell my 300D for such a price but, alas, there appear to be no used 20D's available. If I could sell my black 300D Kit with Grip for over £400 and get a 20D body for about £600, that would IMHO be a very satisfactory deal.

Jessops tend to pick and choose who they pricematch. It's also related to how well that particular store is doing at the time of asking.

When buying my 300d Amazon were selling at £100 less than Jessops. I tried two stores of Jessops to price match. they both phoned head-office to check whether they could. the first one offered me £10 off their list price (yeah right!) the second one offered me £80 of their price and a half-price CF card - both on the same day!

i got scammed by an italian too...

i was selling a brand new PowerBook G4 with all the bells and whistles, boxed as new, never used. sold it for £1500 on eBay. Buyer wanted to use escrow as had supposedly been scammed before...
the escrow company was a scam...
the buyer was too probably...
i lost out on nearly £1600! enough to buy just a few lenses...

BEWARE!

Just to update my original post.
The camera arrived as promised along with a Archos AV420 ordered at the same time.
The camera is a 'grwy import' as it came with two power cables for the charger, one twin round pin and one with two flat pins. The instrustion book and other docs are all in english.
I registered the camera on the Canon UK website with no problems.

My 300d was sold with kit lens and battery grip and 450GBP for those that were interested. I did have it on ebay with a reserve of 500GBP and it did not sell, but I came to a deal with the higest bidder. I felt I sold a bit too low but after checking out the 20D in store 'I just had to have it' you know how it is, once you get that idea in your head that life is'nt woth living without the next new thing that heap on money that you are about to loose on the last new thing just means nothing anymore.

Anyway I've got my 20D, I can't put it down, I don't care it's a import. I don't care ebuyer have misled me, I've got my 20D, I can't put in down.

In the cold light of day, in a few days time, I may regret the puchase, but then I will be caught up in the next thing that I can't live without.

If all else fails I can always drop it and claim on my all risk insurance.

Haha, I've got a 20D and I can't put it down.

I've ordered a 20D body from a German company: www.technikdirekt.de for the equivalent of £866 including VAT and postage. They appear to have excellent bargains across the board and have an english language option on their site. (Which is just as well since my knowledge of German consists of "Gott In Himmel!" , "Achtung!", "Schnell", "Ja", "Nein", "Der Englander Pig Dog!" and other snippets gleaned from reading World War 2 comics in my youth!).
