Last night I was feeling a little bored and very bummed out...so I decided a bit of fresh air in the middle of nowhere with my camera will do me good :)

Quick stats:
Equipment: 30D, Tamron 1.4x TC, 70-200 f4L, tripod, remote shutter release.
EXIF: 1/200s, f/11, ISO 100, 280mm, manual everything

100% crop with minor photoshopping (darken highlights, levels)

C&C is always welcome :)

Cheers.

Good first effort!

Seeing conditions vary moment to moment due to atmospheric turbulence. Take many, many, many photos and one or more will likely be captured a moment when seeing is optimum. That's one method of getting those very sharp moon photos seen on the 'net.

For even more detail photograph less than full moon -- full moon photography is akin to noontime photography, the time when lighting is harshest and shadows disappear -- when lunar details are lit from an angle.

f=280mm using f=70-200mm + 1.4x TC? Stretch lens to max zoom to get the greatest magnification, resulting in largest moon size on image, greatest number of pixels to work with.

F=5.6 or F=8 will give slightly more resolution than F11 due to less aperture diffraction effects.

Isn't that what Lowrider did? 200mm lens with 1.4 TC at maximum zoom is 280mm. Isn't it?!

That's a good shot, but yes, give it another go when the moon is waning or when it's a half-moon or a crescent...you can get nicer detail around the terminator as it highlights all the craters and mountains and stuff.

Thanks for all the comments!

Yeah, I know that half moon is even better :) I just had a rough night and needed to be in the middle of nowhere and play with my camera ;) Will definitely be back to take pics on the next clear night!
