I'm editing on a Dell laptop right now, and given up calibrating this beast. (aside: I upgraded to glossy screen when I ordered it, which I think is the reason calibrating is a failure). I am contemplating the NEC P221W monitor, and if you have one, would like to know how it performs. Can I hook it into a laptop and calibrate effectively? I'm especially frustrated that my photos of green grass come back from the printer looking muddy, so I am anxious to order.

An excellent monitor. You can calibrate it VERY easily with a hardware calibrator and Spectraview II software. DEAD ON CALIBRATION with the right hardware.

I'm using the DTP94 for hardware.

One thing nice about the calibration routine, it's fully automated. Just pick the white point and brightness settings you want, the rest it does by itself. Takes about 20 minutes for a full calibration routine, no user intervention in between steps.

I like this monitor better than the Dell offerings, with possible exception to the U2410. Good bang for the buck at around 400 dollars.

The monitor is being used as a primary display, but there is no reason to see why it won't perform just as well when hooked up to a laptop.

I have that monitor....and I'm using it with a Mac book pro and I gave up using Spectraview.

I use the Xrite Eye One to calibrate it with the eye one software....

Can I ask you my questions ?

Sure thing. What was wrong with the SVII software?
