Caught Company of Thieves out of Chicago opening for Our Lady Peace at the Newport Music Hall last Thursday (10/29). Great band, maybe the best photos of the night (which is unfortunate, since I'm a big OLP fan...).

I'm posting up some of the ones I don't look at and say "That's a winner" (though some are). C&C greatly appreciated!

3 - Tried a bit of an odd PP thought on this one. What do you think?

I like #2 because it is so sharp and because of her expression.

I don't like the selective color in #3. I would rather see it all B&W.

Until I saw #5, I could not tell that she was beating a tambourine in #4, so the motion blur didn't work for me.

In #7, he looks like he's taking a bow, which is too calm to merit zoom blur. Zoom blur seems action-packed to me.

#8 looks cool.

I like #1 although I think it is slightly front focused. Also like #2 ... I like tight headshots of performers. I don't care for selective desaturation or partial desaturation and would prefer normal B&W. And I like #8. I guess Cliff and I are of a mind. :-)

Thanks guys!

This set was some experimentation with the post; I have a fair amount of others that are a bit more "regular" in the post area.

Dwight, the front focus you see in #1 was something I was battling all night. I don't know if it's the camera or the lenses (though some of it was definitely me). I've been getting a bit of front focusing in very dark conditions; more so than in better light at the same apertures. There were more than I want to admit that were too front-focused for their own good.

I have the same front focus problem ... I think the camera picks up the closest thing in the AF area which is usually bigger than the metering rectangle. I have tried using MA +4 on my 70-200mm f/2.8L IS but can't really tell if it has helped. I try to be careful of the area where I focus to avoid anything I can the might pulll the focus forward.

Good point; I had forgotten all about that.

2 is definitely the best of the set.
