Hi all, just wondering if a PocketWizard Plus II can be attached to a Sekonic L-308S? I read somewhere that an ebay trigger could so that it may also be possible?
Thanks,
Devs ;)

The L-308S has no provision for a built-in module like some of Sekonic's other meters.
All flash meters have a PC socket. You could easily plug a radio transmitter (PocketWizard or other) into the meter's PC socket with the right cord, but using it then becomes rather awkward.
The easiest way to use a modern flash meter is in cordless flash mode. You just hold the meter in one hand and trigger the strobes by hitting the test button on your transmitter. If the transmitter is on your camera and the camera is hanging around your neck, then it's pretty simple. In cordless flash mode, the meter senses the flash and gives a reading.

Perfect many thanks for the answer Curtis, this will be my first lightmeter and I didn't consider using it like that. It seems obvious now that i know! ;)

Like Curtis mentions, the L-308 works in both modes. I typically use the cordless flash mode with my Canon or Leica bodies which I use with a hotshoe transmitter (using the test button) and use the PC socket with a cable for the Hasselblad. It's a great little meter!

I use the 308S and i use it in cordless mode. Ideally my assistant holds the meter and i just hit the test button for my flashes. If its just me.. I juggle the camera in one hand, meter in the other & manage to hit the test button without dropping everything

Hi guys, I've just received my 308S and it seems to be doing a great job!
I just have a couple of quick questions to you pros that are used to using one of these.
I notice that the fstops work to a 10th of a stop. Now I'm no expert but as far as I know my camera can not be adjusted this finely... I trust that I use the closest stop?
The shutter speeds that I can select on the meter jumps from 125 to 250. When I'm using my lights my max sync speed is 160s but I can't select this?
Last question could someone explain a typical situation when you would not use the lightsphere ie, slide it out of the way?
Many Thanks! :)

Sekonic L-308S instruction manual:
http://sekonic.com/images/files/L-308S_Instr_Manual.pdf
You have a couple options:
1) Leave it set at 1 stop increments. When you take a reading, select the aperture value closest to the reading you get, or make minor adjustments to the lighting to make it exact. If flash is your only light source, it won't matter if you set the shutter speed on the meter to 1/125 or 1/250. You'll get the same aperture reading.
2) Switch to 1/3 stop increments (see p. 20 in the manual). This is probably best outdoors or whenever the ambient light is a significant part of the exposure. Then you can set a shutter speed to match your camera and it will give aperture readings that match your camera (rounded to the nearest 1/3 stop).

That's great Curtis, just the information that I needed! I'm looking forward to testing a few things out later today.
All the best,
Devs :)
