I've read on this forum a few interesting comments re the problems with canon flash units with D30/60.
Has anyone experience using the Metz 50MZ with the apopropriate SCA adaptor with a D60?

i'm pretty sure you meant to say 54MZ-3, and it is a very good flash for the D30/60.
it works just like the Canon 550EX flash does, but it will not do wireless flash with other flashes except it's own type..........no biggee, just buy another Metz for this.
it does work in ETTL mode just like the Canon.
but the best is still to come, as you can put the Metz 54 in "Auto" mode and set the D30/60 in "Manual" mode and dial in the Aperture and shutter speed that suits you and fire away without the fear of overexposure...........
here is a link to a disccusion.......

The falsh is actually a 50MZ-5. Hammerhead style with seperate sensor to go in the hotshoe.
The information via the link is most useful re teh 54MZ - would the same comments apply to the 50MZ

that i assumed it shouldn't even be used with a D30/60.

I've now tested the 50MZ and found the voltage to be 2.6v so that makes it safe to use with digital. Now i'm just wondering about how it will integrate with TTL metering on the D60
