Hey guys I am planning on doing some low light shooting in situations with people but where I wont be able to use flash. I am planning on keeping ev as + as possible and using 800 iso (or 1600 if I absolutely need it) and using f2.8 with my g10. Any other advice of how to boost light without sacrificing the quality of the photo too much, I want to squeeze every bit of shutter speed I can out of my camera.

Are you hand holding the camera? If so, keep your elbows close to the body and hold your breath when taking the shot. That should help minimize camera shake. In low light situations, you need all the help you can get!

Thanks, I've gotten pretty good at holding my camera steady for longer exposures, the problem is that the people will be moving. I can't hold them steady xD

I was messing with 1/4000 shutter speed with flash in my bathroom with the lights out. No matter how fast, quick, abruptly I move, I never got any blur :)

strange that I can't use 1/4000 with f/2.8... I would think I would want to let in more light for such a quick shutter, but only 1/2000 is available at f/2.8

for low light, or anything ~.5 seconds, I use a tripod. I also had good results using the hood of a Mazda to take a pic of my friends Conquest at night:

8s, f/2.8, 800ISO
