This is a very nice shot. Well-balanced, in focus, and I like how you put some black space around the moon and set it a bit off center.

Looks very nice . Did you crop at 100% or use a small format ?

adding to "first moon" shots by noobs:
New Canon DSLR 3 Moon shots (my 1st ever moon shoots)
(A “few” junk ones thrown out, gotta love digital film)
I’m still learning my new camera and its settings.
Took this morning (Thur 11/5) 3:30am, moon was almost directly overhead for this shot.
Tripod, f11, 1/125 sec, ISO200, 250mm. (via my EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS kit lens)
I never expected to see the moon this clearly, cool stuff.

Taken in my backyard Tues 11/3 morning (5:30am-ish) as moon setting towards horizon.
There was a slight fog rolling over the moon, but the trees visible.
So I went with 10 sec exposure here, going for the “eerie” feeling:

This one from different angle, 15 sec exposure, fog rolling by:

Mike three unique shots here . First one looks very good , however that lens has produced some slight CA on the far right side of the moon edge . Second is unique cause the reflections around the moon looks like you were shooting through a spiderweb . Third shot even tho it's fog cover you picked up the Moons Corona . The rainbow effect circling the moon . So Nice going !

Thx for C&C, the 2nd one I have 3 different exposure shots, this was mid-level, another person suggested slight brighter might make the shot work better. I'll re-visit tonight.
About 6:15am-ish the moon was still high and the sun was just rising, so the sky was turning blue, I took a few shots before getting ready for work (need to keep my day job...), so tonight I'll process those and see how they came out.

If #2 is a spiderweb then what will help illuminate that is a flashlight with the white lightbulb , not the blue light bulb . You can also use the Preflash button and see how that looks but i'd imagine it would light up eveything . Good luck ! Look forward to those other shots .

Guess I was wrong, #2 was the "most bright as taken" shot, so with slight PSE8 applied I like this much more now. I was wondering about cropping some of the dark RH side, but this works as is.

2 more shots from this morning Thur 11/5 7am-ish just as sun creeping up:
Straight from camera 1/200 f 9.9 250mm ISO400

Crop with slight PSE8:
(Phase of the Moon on 5 November: waning gibbous with 89% of the Moon's visible disk illuminated.)

For ref this is where the moon was above west horizon, 1/200 f 9.9 55mm ISO400, straight from camera.

Ok, until the next full moon.....but I can't post in "first moon" thread 'cause that would be lying then....time for a "second moon" thread to see growth :rolleyes:
(and sturdier tripod, remote shutter release, etc)

btw;
I think I sold 2 canon T1i's today @ work, seriously.
(I work for automotive OE company)
I passed my moonshots and 2 people who were on fencepost of buying now are doing, espically with $200 Canon rebate.
My friend marked up my shot like this, from memory within 5 minutes of my email and sent back.
He wanted to be an astronaut, I did not check his markings.

MarineManiac;
sorry if you feel I hijacked your thread, I'm new to this forum and saw "first moon" and started posting away.
Very nice/clear/sharp shoot you took.
My benchmark.
btw;
You in Lansing? Both my wife and brother MSU grads, go Sparty!

This seems like a really small image if this is the original. The disk is only 130 pixels across and, with 600 mm, I'd expect it to be much bigger. I'd like to see a larger version if you have one.

Very nice photo. It actually LOOKS like the moon we see in the sky (the "bluish-grey" tint), and NOT just plain, FLAT, BORING, DULL grey!

i host on flickr and just grab the medium format because it fits on the page on my laptop screen and the jpeg compression is not as apparent. the first one i posted is 2592 x 1728 full size. but heres the "large" size on flickr

I downloaded your original full size and cropped it and reduced it to 1000x in pixel size so i could post it here so we could see the bigger size and detail . This is a great moon shot very crisp and detailed focus right on . I didn't do any other PP to it . Hope you don't mind since you have Image Editing ok ? BTW this is a very very good image and one to be proud of !!

Is this $200 Rebate still going on? And for the Canon T1i? Hmmmm, early x-mas present I'm thinking!
