Hello everyone!

This is my first post over in this section but i'd really like to share something that i have never seen to this day in my life...(although im a huge 19 years old!haha)

Anywho, around 1am here in Michigan, USA, the moon appeared with a circular halo around it so i decided to step outside and capture it!

Im no moon photographer at all, mostly stick to photojournalism type work, but i grabbed a tripod and a fisheye and took off to capture it! My 17-55 wasnt wide enough. Oh, the fisheye was full manual and i have never used it before so the buildings look OOF...but the moon is the main focus so idk..haha

Here are the results!

Wow, those are fantastic shots...really like them.

I've been seeing the halo around the moon quite a lot lately, due to "adverse" weather conditions, but I've never seen it quite as clear as that, and haven't captured it like that either. It's usually a halo hidden amoung clouds for me, rather than a smooth mist like you seemed to have there.

I'm a lurker in A & C, but I have to say these are BEAUTIFUL!
We had a lovely effect here in Kent, UK last night too. There was cloud (light), and the moon light shining through it created a wonderful coloured 'halo' effect. I got some shots but certainly nothing fit to show here.

Thanks everyone!

It certainly was a very neat effect that looks quite cool in photo form.

Ring at night: Sailors Delight.
Ring in the morning: Sailors take Warning!

I'm afraid to take my moon shots from 11/2 off the camera. I know they suck.

Thanks everyone!

FE lens used was a Bower i think. IDK...i borrowed it for this shot. Its a full manual lens so it took me a quick sec to figure it out but it got the job done!

Nicely captured, the Halo is caused by a prismatic effect of the moons reflected lite, through small ice crystals in the upper atmosphere. Do an image search for "parhelia" "sundogs" and "sun pilars" to see some more interesting halo effects. There's another saying "count the number of stars in the ring around the moon to know how many day's till it was going to rain"
