Been browsing around the forums here, lots of good information!

I'm a college student on a budget, looking to get a new DSLR for the summer. I have a small point and shoot (Canon SD300) that I use quite a bit, but I'm looking to get into the SLR and more advanced photography. I've been reading around and struggling to determine what camera I should get.

The 10D looks like a real nice option, metal body a big plus, but finding and buying used is somewhat shaky. The 350XT seems nice, but I don't like the plastic feel to it, seems cheap. This leaves the 20D, which is pushing the budget, and is going to limit the lens choices when I'm ready to get a lens. So if anyone could help point me in a direction that they think might be a reasonable option it would be greatly appreciated.

Any lens reccomendations would be welcomed too, as I would like to take it out to a couple of baseball games this summer and around the city once I'm back at school! Thanks again!

If you don't like the feel of the XT - check the feel of the 300D. It is still plastic, but it has a more "hearty" feel to me. The 300D is a great entry point to the DSLR market - beleive me - you don't need 8MP for most work...............

I picked up a 10d in perfect condition in the box with all accessories on ebay for $625. It had just under 2,000 pics on it. I love it. I'm VERY glad I didn't go with the XT. I can pick up lenses now and wait until the 30d or 40d to upgrade my body. I think I"ll be very happy with the 10d until then. I, of course, wanted the 20d but couldn't pass up a great 10d for the price. My advice is buy on ebay but buy close enough you can pick it up in person. I've had nothing but good luck on ebay myself but I know it's far from 100% secure. Good luck.
