I am having trouble finding a bag where I live for my rebel T1i. As of right now all i have is the kit lens but will eventually have another lens to accompany the camera. Any advice on a bag that I could get.
Thanks,
Eric

I've got a T1i as well, I love it, I have a canon 200eg (http://www.amazon.com/Canon-Deluxe-Backpack-200EG-Cameras/dp/B00009R6TA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1257515035&sr=8-1) that I use to keep it stored in the house and when we go on trips.
I also plan on getting a small jill-e bag for when I start doing weddings (they are more stylish girlie brand).
but I'm also considering getting a lowepro slingshot (http://www.amazon.com/Lowepro-SlingShot-All-Weather-Digital-Backpack/dp/B000BAX50G/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1257515223&sr=8-1) for when I go hiking and do nature photography.

I love my lowepro slingshot! It's a great bag if you want to have your camera, a few accesories, and a couple lenses. I have the slingshot 100, and I can fit my 50D w/24-105, 75-300, powershot G9, chargers and batteries for both camera, lens hoods, etc. It also has an integrated rain fly which works awesome! I had the camera for a week and I was caught in a down pour, and the rain fly kept my gear perfectly dry.

If you plan on getting more and more gear... I would stay away from any of the Lowepro "100" bags haha My flipside 200 is way to small, can barely hold my 30D with a grip on it

I have a Lowepro MiniTrekker AW. It fits my T1i, 17-55mm, 200mm, 135mm, 430 EX II, batteries, memory cards, filters etc... all very nicely and still it is very small and easily carried on your back. It carries my tripod attached on the back and it has a rain cover. My perfect all in one bag, especially with the nice straps.
I also have a Crumpler 6 Million Dollar Home but I don't use it anymore. It looks great but I find that when I want to do some urban exploring it moves around to much on my back to be comfortable. I prefer a backpack style bag.

Lowepro SlingShot 100 AW - Fits my T1i with 17-85mm attached, 18-55mm kit lens, 50mm f1.8, SD cards and some other personal items. Great bag.

Another vote for the Slingshot 100 as long as you don't want to fit any longer lenses in there, I have a 450D & a 75-300 will only just cram in there mounted.
However with the kit 18-55IS fitted there is loads of room for flash, zoom, filters, hoods, sandwiches, cards blower lens pen.
Good value buy, as long as you don't plan on getting any L glass & stashing it mounted. That's why I'm looking at bigger bags maybe Slingshot 200 for my 70-200 f2.8.

I'll underscore what others have also said - give some thought as to what other items you may be buying in the future: additional lens, flash, telecon etc. Just because a bag may seem perfect today doesn't mean its the perfect purchase.
I started out with the xsi, the kit lens, and the 430ex flash...a year later, and a lot of gear turnover, I've gone through three different bags until settling on the Domke F-4AF. Started with a basic Canon bag, then tried out the Crumper 5 & 7 MDH.
Nobody needs to spend a lot on a bag - but definitely give some thought as to space needs tomorrow.

Yet another vote for the Slingshot 100. I can fit my 40D with 28-75 attached, plus my 55-250, flash, spare batteries and cards, and even a small lunch/snacks as well! It's my favourite bag. Only downside, it won't take the longer zooms (70-200). If you think you may get a longer zoom in the future, you might take a look at the Flipside series. They're awesome bags, very comfortable to wear, and like the Slingshots, you don't have to take them off to access your gear.

any problems with using the slingshot 100 w/ a gripped T1i? (or a gripped XSI?)

You should try them out if you can. I tried a canon bag, then bought the slingshot 200, did not like it. Bought a fastpack 350, way to big. I have finally a crumpler 6 MDH and a fastpack 200 and I am finally happy.
I could not try them before I bought them, please do if you can.

my husband bought me a slingshot 200 but I ended up returning it because i didnt like how it felt on my shoulder and chest. I ended up buying a domke f-2 (http://www.amazon.com/Domke-F-2-Original-Bag-Sand/dp/B00009R884/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1261979370&sr=1-1) and love it. I have my gripped t1i, canon 18-55mm, canon 50mm and sigma 70-300mm lenses, as well as my speedlight and extra batteries.
It feels great on your shoulder and deffinatly seems like its protecting my gear :)

I've found Lowepro to be wonderfully good stuff. I have a Lowepro Rezo 170 AW when I am traveling light.

I agree with the above statement.
I found myself buying numerous bags as I accumulated more gear.
I'm currently using a Lowepro Fastpack 250 and it's fine for the gear I have. However, it comes a bit short when it comes to provide room for new lenses.

I used to use the Canon 200eg with my Rebel xt, but found it to be too big for my use. Also, I wanted something that was easier to use on the fly. I went with the Crumpler 5MDH when i purchased my T1i. It comfortably fit my T1i w/ 55-250 attached, 50mm 1.8, 18-55, and a 28-105. If you have similar gear or less it is perfect. The 18-55 and 28-105 is gone and replacing them is a Sigma 24-70 and now the bag is a tad too small.

I'm using a Domke F-2, and still have lots of room left.

That looks like it would be fine for your gear. Not much room for growth though.

I use the Kata DR-467. Fits my T1i and 4 lens or 3 lens and an external flash. Also has a top compartment for filters, cleaning supplies, and a laptop compartment. comes with a rain guard too. i love it and it's only around $50

Hi, All. Thanks for chiming in. I must have missed the subscription notification on this thread and have missed a lot of the replies until now. Thanks for all of the great ideas, I settled on: http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=791563&highlight=L400 It looks like a good bag, barely used and about 3/8 of the price of a new one shipped. We'll see how it works.
