Had purchased Canon A590IS for about $105 early this year from Amazon but had battery level problems, so they sent me another, which had the same problem. Amazon does not send a third time but I would rather have that model than any of the subsequent models, unless I am missing something about later models (whew....long a*** sentence :) sorry).
That model has manual mode which I do not seem to find on the other models. Not sure what the difference is between the A and the G cameras and have not found via quickie search (opportunity here). Have considered the G10 and the model with an articulating screen and 20x zoom, but hear/feel grinding when lens extends (forget the model and cannot search right now :o). Perhaps the S10IS? or S1IS???
Oh yes, the question. Any place where an A590IS can be had new, at a decent price that is! Am I too hung-up on the A590IS and overlooking a better camera? Liked the feel of the 590 with the battery bump to hold onto. And Ilike the feel of the G10...metal body...takes me back to the old Nikons. Dropped mine on the subway steps in Tokyo and it still worked! The 300mm zoom only got a dent in the tube and worked fine. But..back to Canon...
Have considered Nikon, used a few FTNs for years but not too happy with their replacements. Using an F707 Sony currently, but it has problems with a internal connector which causes memory card issues. It has a tendency to oversaturate pics anyway. And I want a new camera that uses a several AA rechargables, and SD cards; I'm SOS's (sick of Sony's) memory card debacle.
So, any info on the A590 or what is a good small camera model that has manual mode and uses AA's and SD cards, at least 10 MP and 12x lens.
Thanks,
Chris
