I saw someone posted pics from on the field, I am not so lucky as to have a field pass, but I think a few pics came out okay.
These were all shot with my 40D with the 70-300 DO IS. Yes, I bought it so I could get it into sporting events. It is close enough to 3 inches

Not too bad considering what you were working with... I think a couple of the shots are a little underexposed and could use some fill light. I do not really shoot sports though however, so someone else could probably give better C&C.

Thanks for the comments, I agree, some are a little underexposed, the shadows made for some difficult lighting conditions
