So I am going to be in Denver next week. It is really getting cold in Iowa this time of year, what about Denver? Not sure what clothes to bring.

Also, what is there to do around the area when I am not in meetings? Much snow this time of year. Probably brave the zoo but not sure what else.

Thanks

Hey Doc,

Denver is going through a nice warm-up currently, kind of similar to us here in Iowa, however this looks to end through the weekend with a small storm system. A quick glance at their weather for next week shows highs in the 50s for the most part, and lows in the 30s. Depending how long you are going to be there, the latter half of the week (Thur/Fri) does bring in some rain chances and a few degrees cooler on the temperatures.

Not sure on everything to do in the area, as you know I'm in Iowa too... As for the snow question though, obviously no snow in the metro area, but the mountains do have snow. Here is a quick look at the latest snow depth map for the Colorado area: Image Link (http://www.nohrsc.noaa.gov/interactive/html/map_only.php?var=ssm_depth&min_x=-107.74166666667&min_y=36.616666666667&max_x=-101.74166666667&max_y=41.116666666667&bgvar=dem&shdvar=none&title=0&width=600&height=450&font=0&lbl=m&palette=0&h_o=0&metric=0&snap=1&o9=1&o12=1&o13=1) & Legend (http://www.nohrsc.noaa.gov/interactive/tmp/legend_ssm_depth_dem_152_402_0_1_0_0_0.png)

Mama used to always say, "Forest, Denver in November is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're going to get."

Mama was right.

Today it's 72. The average high in November is 54 and the average low is 23, but the record high was 84 and the record low was -5.

Better pack heavy.

Jayson - always good to bump into a fellow chaser and ST'er here!

Doc - I live in the Denver metro area and a week ago we were digging out from 18 inches of snow, and yesterday was a record high of 77. November is our second snowiest month for snowfall after March, but it can also be very comfortable. With the warm temps the last few days, most of the snow in Denver is pretty much gone. Jayson gives some very valuable information in his post. You can get a quickie forecast from the National Weather Service here (http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?site=bou&zmx=1&zmy=1&map.x=158&map.y=128), just be sure to refresh your browser to get the most current information.

How long are you going to be here and how much free time will you have? The Denver Zoo is a good time and open year round. There is also the Denver Museum of Nature and Science in the same vicinity as the zoo. They have an IMax theater and some good displays. If you have a car, be sure to get over to Red Rocks in Morrison, and Coors Brewery in Golden is always fun, especially the free beer at the end of the tour :D. If you like tea, there is the Celestial Seasonings facility in Boulder...you will never forget the peppermint room! There are always a variety of shows at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts.

Thanks. No car and we are close to the museum. I only drink dark beer, don't like clear beer.

Any microbreweries near downtown?

I will be downtown at the Marriott Tuesday through Sun. Tuesday is open, Wed is fairly flexible as is Sat.

No car so at the mercy of public transit. Hopefully it is easy to figure out.

Microbreweries in Denver? You'll think you died and went to heaven! Wrong time of year but in the warmer months they have the Great American Beer Festival there . . .

Really. Well if it is cold at least I will have a way to spend my time. :)

Hit Rock Bottom on the 16th street mall, it's an easy walk from the Marriott. You can get a variety of CO micro-brews at just about any bar/restaurant. Ask at the front desk, they can steer you in the right direction.

Excellent. They also have a free shuttle to the 16th St mall so I will check that out. I get there Tuesday at 11 so plenty of time to do something.

Married life is not too different than the non-married life... ;)

The little one is good, cut through his first tooth the other day and is working on his other front one. We are heading out to get some 6-month photos this afternoon beings we have a warm and clear day in November! I'll have to post some on the forums here.

Don't miss the jazz at El Chapultepec, one of Denver's greatest dive bars. Awesome crowd at that joint every night. All kids of people .. young, old, hip, geeky, black, white, whatever. That place has a killer vibe and I love it. http://www.yelp.com/biz/el-chapultepec-denver

Well I ate at Rock bottom last night. It was very good. I also had a couple of Molly Brown's Titanic ale. Good brew. I wonder how many people realize that no one ever called her Molly while she was alive. Her name was Margaret Brown and her friends called her Maggie.
