Ok currently I have a system, and I was thinking of upgrading it to add a little more power.

Core 2 Duo 6750 to Quad Core 9650
4GB of PC-6400 to 8GB of PC-6400
Dell 22" T-Panel to a 24" non T-Panel?

I figure it would run me around a grand. Just wondering if it's worth it or should I just keep what I have. I am thinking if I do anything the panel would be my number one.

Your computer is faster than mine, what do you do that requires so much power?

I would use a grand and put it towards a new lens, or maybe even a 7D:cool:

P.S. I'm running a 2.8Ghz Core 2 Duo, 3 GB of PC-6400 Ram. I found it a bit sluggish with Vista, but I have no complaints whatsoever after upgrading to Windows 7.

I would suggest going with a low end i5 if money is an issue, or an i7 if it isn't. The i5 systems aren't much more than core 2 quad core ones, yet they provide a substantial gain. Core 2 duos are on their way out quickly, they just aren't anywhere near as powerful as anything else sold by intel.

I just upgraded my OS from Server 2003 to Windows 7 64... it was like getting an almost free hardware upgrade... everything is so much faster!

Everything feels so much faster. Test repeatedly show it's not really faster than Vista, and in certain cases a bit slower (bound to change to a bit faster eventually, still some quirks to work out)

Just upgrade the CPU to a 2.6GHz or higher quad. No need to upgrade memory unless you're running out. Screen can be purchased at any time. You'll see a good jump in performance with the CPU but probably not with the memory. Then save for a few months or longer and go i7 next year.

Yes Windows 7 is very fast. So I am getting Quad core will be my best bet. What about the monitor? Does it make a big difference?

What mother board have you got?

If its already quad core compatible, then start with the Q9650, or even a Q9550 (which now costs less than my Q6600 cost me). If your batching lots of files at once, and running several apps at once, this will give you the biggest increase in performance.
I've been using a mid rang dual core a lot lately, and notice a huge difference when I come home and jump on my quad.

You only need the RAM upgrade if your using more than the 4GB you have, although its pretty cheap at the moment, and you can never have to much
I've thought about it, but even processing lots of 30D Tiff's I have yet to need more than the 4GB I have.
