Holy guacamole! the lens hood on this thing is HUGE! If I wasn't anal about always having to use a hood, I'd sell it to a 10-22 user :) Oh, and by the way......I love the lens.

done. I had anticipated this problem, so I sold three lenses that I had. Now I only have the gear in my SIG. As soon as I sell the 28-105 f/3.5-4.5 I'm getting the 70-200L f/4 to fit in my LowePro MikroTrekker.

I never use the hood on my 17-40 F4L but always on my 70-200 F2.8L. I have no idea why??????

Cheers,

Don't worry, also the hood for the 10-22 is really big (basically is wide, not long, doh...)

Not only that, but there is some doubt as to how effective it is. Presumably it's designed for when the lens is truly 17mm, so when it's on a digital camera with a smaller "film area" the shielding is not as good as it could be. For something so big, you'd think it'd be good! :)

It doesnt' seem like it would do much, but the cool factor is there. When I have it on (always have the hood on it) I've noticed it draws quite a bit of attention.

Just got this lens today, and I love it! Love the hood too! Makes it look wicked cool. I don't care if it works or not as long as it makes my lens look good. :) For the price tag on this thing, it better look good! haha!

Get yourself a EW-83DII hood that's made for the 24mm f1.4 L. Due to the crop factor of the 20D, this hood is much more effective on the 17-40mm f4 L and still doesn't fringe.

Ditto. I use an EW-83DII on my 17-40.

Thanks for that- I too recently got the 17-40L and think the hood is bonkers for the 20D crop

gee whiz, you should try the hood on a 400 f2.8! 17-40 hood is small :)
