Finally got it! It's great! No shots yet...but wow! It's a demon!
Anyway, should I use the hood ALL the time? Does anyone else have this lens and never take the hood off of it? Any help is much appreciated!

yes I think you should. I always use my hoods. Keeps out stray light and offers some protection.

Yes, use it. Even if it makes you look like a dork. :)

I have hoods for every lens and use them all the time. They help a lot...

I have lens hoods for a few of my lenses, but am too lazy to use them. I use my hand to shield the sun if appropriate or shoot away from the sun.
They ARE a good idea for maximum contrast and lens protection.
As a walkabout lens the hood makes it less easy to hold.
It would be better to get into the habit of using it rather than not.

i always have mine on - even in the bag. dork? - nah - it's physically impossible to look like a dork with an L lens ;)
the hood works very well, both for bright (sun or single source) lights and it seems to keep the ambient glare down when in largely bright areas. i'm not sure if you know what i mean, but when it's really bright and there is a colour fog (like a subdued large lens flare affecting the whole shot) - that seems to be reduced.
