For my next round of moon shots I'd like to get remote for less vibrations.
My XTi can use Remote Switch RS-60E3
http://shop.usa.canon.com/wcsstore/eStore/images/rs-60e3_1_l.jpg
or Wireless Remote Controller RC-5.

Both about $30.

RS-60E3 is attached, other is wireless.
Pros/Cons for:
-moon/extended shooting
-other usage (group shots)
I'm leaning Wireless Remote Controller RC-5 (obvious nice for group shot with you in it) unless advised otherwise.
Thx for feedback.

I have the RC-1 (http://www.amazon.com/Canon-Wireless-Remote-Control-Digital/dp/B00004WCIC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1257537611&sr=8-1) which attaches to your neck strap so you don't loose it when not using it . It has instant shot or 2-sec delay . Works fine for my needs and if i need a longer exposer like 30-secs for instance and i use mirror lock-up i just use the in-camera timer anyway for 10-sec delay . Cheaper by almost $10.00 . The only thing is to remember to turn it off when not in use so the battery last longer .

Thx for fast feedback, RC-1 it is, I'll also get a eyepiece cover:
"Make sure to cover the eyepiece when using this so stray light doesn't ruin your exposure"

I'm also adding "Scott Kelby's Digital Photography Boxed Set, Volumes 1, 2, and 3" to my amazon order, what the heck.

What Eye-Piece cover are you talking about ?

I'm assuming the one that is a part of the neck strap. You do not want to have the shutter open without covering the eyepiece or the extraneous light will mess with the camera's exposure calculations.

I have the Phottix wireless version for a 50D and love it. Bought it from TeamSpeed here on the forum.
Try this:

I use a 3rd party RS-60E3 equivalent mostly (Hama I think, no reason, just what was available at the time). It lets me do exposures up to 30s without touching the camera and you can lock the button down with the camera in continuous mode to take lots of frames.
For longer than 30s exposures I bought one of these http://www.jjc.cc/products/TM-C.htm (from a seller on amazon). It does the job well but is a little fiddly to set up, especially in the dark. You can configure a delay between frames too if you want to let the camera cool a little between exposures.
I've never really worried about covering the eyepiece because it's pretty much dark anyway. If stray light can only affect exposure calculations, does that mean it doesn't matter when we're using manual mode?

I got my RC-1 remote yesterday, used it to take some picts in my wood workshop this morning testing it.

Then I was using it outside for family portrait shots (xmas cards gettin ready), seemed limited range, about 12 feet-ish max, not the "Allows for shutter release up to 16 feet" spec.
It came w/batteries, I'll have to see if they are fully charged.
Guess I should have seen if there were ones in 25 foot range before I bought this, seems we have BIG family gatherings yearly and 12-14 feet away is just not enough distance.
(I did search and there are some)

Neat, might have to invest in something like that myself, should I want to do some hands-off, >30s repeated exposures when I don't have my laptop linked up.
