I've been trying to improve my car shots, and don't know how to improve. This is my latest shot (my car), any help on improvements would be gratefully received.

I find my eyes drawn more to the giant violet hedge thing.

I agree. I would find a more subtle background. Also, perhaps you could try with shallower depth of field.

Very feminine backdrop, (sexist, I possibly am;) ) also have you cloned the bottom right flowers in, around the area of the headlight? It looks too contrived to be natural.

First of all as others have said, the purple in the flowers is just to dominating. Also, the car's roof just gets lost amongst them, there isn't enough contrast between the lines of the car and the flowers. That shadow on the windshield is really a problem. I like the idea you had for the background but it isn't working. Perhaps a change in perspective would have helped. Bring the car closer to the camera (farther from the flowers). This gives you better bokeh on the flowers and would also give you the opportunity to adjust the lighting on the car (using some reflectors or whatnot) and eliminate that killer shadow.

I do like the setup of the car and the angle of your shot, both work out quite nicely. Your exposure is good even though that dark background is killing you. A good shot but there are some things that could change to make it great.

I agree, it's not good to have a background that overpowers the car. Nice angle on it, & you already know that I prefer cars shot near sunset. The same shot with the sun setting behind the background might be killer! Background would go dark & the car would reflect the brighter sky. I agree that you might move the car a bit closer to the cam.
Good idea on the green/magenta complimentary colors, though. ;-)
