To be honest, nothing super interesting about this picture. I wouldn't use it in my portfolio.
It's just a power pole, we see them every day, nothing exciting. Yes, the wood is old looking, but still, not that creative. The sky is bland and there are many lines that distract the eye.

I like the cyanotype treatment and also the sepia treatment of the wood. I don't think I've ever seen both done on the same print.
The shot is good for what it is - don't be dissuaded!

Bob these days I do some investigation of those who critique my work. This helps me understand where they are at in their own work and I can place value on their comments accordingly.
Thanks for your comments.

I actually like this one, simply because of the treatment of hues.I am known to have a pole or two in my collection;)

I like it! Looks like it would be a nice stock photo.

While being trained to become an architect, we were subjected to many an exercise regarding object in the field typology.
This one fits the bill perfectly. The play between the vertical and the diagonal, solid volume (of the transformers) vs. linearity of the power lines as well as the pole, and still the reversal of alliance of the pole with the power line in the second scenario...
yep, the architecture school messed with my mind, but the positive aspect the training was that it enabled me to analyze (perhaps overly so) visual input in purely compositional terms.
What's important about your portfolio is knowing who your target audience is. As in your past postings, your entries elicit polarizing responses - this thread is no exception. If you are presenting to those whom you know would be able to read into your intentions, then by all means, include it.
