i bet they're used a lot less these days since live view is in most modern cameras. i'd never call them useless, though. i had to take a group photo once, and didn't have an ultra wide...i set it up on a table, against a wall, and crossed my fingers hoping that i'd focused correctly. in this case, live view wouldn't have helped.

i bet if you wanted to shoot a macro of something low and in the dirt or mud you'd never say that they were useless ;)

+1 I have the Angle C-finder. I seem to use it for 25% of my shots. I tend be very low and often pointed up. I used to completely lay on the ground and became awkward very quickly before I bought one. Its one of those purchases that I wish I did from the beginning, but then again I was unsure how my shooting style was in the beginning

+1 ^

When the camera is down on the ground. To me, it's worth having in the gear bag.

Just my 2 cents.

Very popular with macro photography when shooting things on/near the ground. Other that that usage, I couldn't say. But I do know how hard it is to get these shots without it. Looking to buy one myself for macro.

I use mine all the time for low angle shots and especially for setting up remote cameras in basketball and baseball.

Mine fell in love with the floor and was raped . After that useless . I will be replacing it .
If you do table top shots , shoot out windows that only open from bottom , etc ==
If you can afford it , get it . It's like a remote switch - when you need it it's to late to get it .

My Canon Right Angle Finder C is an absolute necessity for me, as is an electronic shutter release. It is always in my bag, and even more commonly in my pocket where I can get to it rapidly.

I like to shoot low PoV landscapes and low macros and the right angle finder has saved my neck both literally and figuratively. Better to use one of these than to bend your neck back at a right angle!

The Hoodman right angle finder is also well made and less expensive than the Canon.

Document copying on a table top is another application of right angle finders, which is not replaced by a Live View LCD facing the ceiling
