Hi all,
When the screen is black, I am getting a white halo bleeding inward around the edges of the screen, and also in the menu, around the text when the background of the screen is black. In photographic terms it is called blooming where hi contrast black meets white and there is a lot of bleeding of the white.
I hope this is a clear enough description.
Anyone else notice this?
Just want to make sure I don't have a faulty screen.
Thanks,
Jeff

I've noticed the same exact thing on my G11. It reminded me back with my G9 I had a "light leak" around the corners that would show up even when viewing a picture taken. Now on the G11 I do see the "halo" effect but for me it hasn't affected the picture quality or user experience and I don't see it when viewing pictures I've shot so I haven't worried about it. I kinda figured it was a normal phenomenon.

I do not see this effect when I am in any mode other than menu. I do notice it when I am in the menu, however. It doesn't appear to have any effect on the photographs.

I see it in some of the menus. It is done intentionally to look cool. if you take a completely black photo and play it back, you can't see it, so it is NOT backlight bleed.

I agree...and to prove your point the luminescence moves down the menu as you select different options acting as a highlight.

Well, I got a replacement anyway, I will have the new G11 tomorrow, and will give you all a report about the screen!
I understand about the halo "effect" in the menu. It is for cosmetics....coolness!
I am concerned about the lcd edges that seem to bleed in unevenly.
Also I agree, it does not affect the final image....and this little guy does a great job at it!
Thanks,
Jeff

Got the new replacement and I stand corrected. Same thing....Still has some flare around the edges of the screen when the background is black...Oh Well....I guess that is just how they are....I can live with it, minor annoyance though.
This little gem does produce great images..so I am happy!

Thanks for letting us know your findings. I was pretty certain it was an intentional effect on Canon's part. With the light leak issue back on the G9 you could even see that when reviewing photos, the new display looks great when shooting or viewing and like you said only shows up on black background. Although I wish it was a full 3" I guess being movable makes up for the difference.
