There's been a couple posts recently asking about how certain retailers are or citing they found the best price for some gear. I suggest the following site where you can do a search on a retailer and get a pretty fair idea quickly if you want to make that wallet emptying purchase there or not. Me, I'm in the boat that I'd rather pay a little more and not put up with shady sales ploys and tactics.
http://www.resellerratings.com/
Also another good place to poke around is...
http://froogle.google.com/froogle
...to search for the best price, (but not necessarily the best service).
As the saying goes, " Buyer beware !!"

What's the point of this post? Anyhow, I'd go to www.shopping.com to find prices FIRST, then check them out on their other site www.resellerratings.com which they maintain.

What's the point of this post?
This is not a flame, just an answer to the question.
Information.
There are a lot of new photographers on this site every week, and not everyone is computer or internet savvy. As the older generations get on-board, the more direction they can get to assist with dealing with the internet retailers the better. Some may not even know enough of the answers to ask the necessary questions.
Mark_48 might have been stung or nearly stung, and tossed the info in to assist others. If he is just learning it, others may be in the same boat. Kudos for helping out.:D
Yes, this is repeatative to older members or internet experienced people, but may be new or interesting to more recent members. I know I've picked up a thing or two on this site.
BTW, my comparisons are to local mortar and brick and B&H, if their reseller.com rateing is near OK. Amazing how the mortar and brick stores are learning their real competitor is the internet, but will only respond to direct requests. The shelf prices are still rediculously high, (to catch the unaware) but they will quote if asked directly.

Why can't I buy direct from Canon? In a few years I'd expect to. Yeah, sounds off-the-wall... but all they need is a glorified on-line shopping cart or a comms/call centre in India or Dagistan.
Q: "What about all the camera retailers and their repairs/servicing networks? "
A: What about them?
I've already seen Brother brand dump their 20 yr old dealer network and go to chain stores/mega discounters.
