The client proof section is somewhere for the client to look at their proofs.
If not necesary - it's desirable, how are you showing your proofs?

proofs are the pictures taken at the wedding from which the bride and groom choose which they want for prints, albums or other products.

so if they get a CD of the proofs, what is the advantage of having the same picture of the website ?

Online proofing lets you sell prints to family and friends. I don't do Cds of proofs, as proofs aren't fully processed, and I don't want customer printing sub-standard images. I do proof DVDs with proshow gold, and I ask people not to print from them as they'll look horrible and they'll get the high res cd later anyway (if they paid for it).
Proof sheets are another way to do proofs, or printed proofs.
