I have recently purchased a Canon D60 and have a Promaster 5700 flash that I have used on all my canon film eos systems. I am wondering if this flash is compatible with this camera or am I going to have to purchase a canon flash? I have tried using this flash on the camera and it will not fire...I am wondering if any one has suggestions or is able to help me..
Thanks!!!

Bsedg, why did you purchase that brand of flash if you didn't know if it was compatible with your D60? I'm just curious.
Some of the good photo retailers offer very good advice about this sort of thing. Too often, a purchaser orders up one item and then discovers that he has a compatibility problem. He tries to return that to the retailer and places the retailer into a dilemma.
There was probably nothing broken with the wrong flash unit, but now it cannot be re-sold as being new. Who should take financial responsibility for that?
The Canon 550EX is the standard flash solution, and it has been discussed a zillion times in this forum. Not all of the various flashes in the world are compatible with E-TTL.

Just want to clarify...
I already had the flash and then months later bought the D60. My question is, is the flash compatible with the camera or am I going to have to purchase a canon flash????????

no you can purchase a Metz 54MZ-3 which will do everything the Canon 550EX will plus you can use the Metz as an auto thyristor, where you put the Metz in "Auto" mode and the D60 in "Manual" mode and fire away. you'll enjoy more consistent exposures with it as well...........and to add to this, here is a site that shows what will and won't work with EOS cameras.......
