Thanks - yes there is club, provincial and international rugby for ladies. I think that there are even a few high schools who compete locally.
TBH its the first time I have seen ladies play and although it was only a practice game I was pretty impressed with the standard.
a couple more from yesterday

The one on the right is pretty impressive. Wish there was a rugby team here in Japan.

Haha,
Rugby is the most impressive sport on the planet, next to surfing ;)
It is structured a little like American Football, as far as moving the "ball?" down the field, except the game is much faster, like basketball, very little stopping. The kicking is sort of like a forward pass or at times a punt like filed position tactic.
It is soooo fun to watch.

to say its like NFL is a little wrong, u can only pass backwards, not forwards which changes the game completely, and you keep moving the ball until you comit a foul or lose the ball (no 4 downs 4 ten and a stopage for 30 seconds every time a tackle is made yards sort of thing). every time someone is tackled they must push the ball backwards out of the ruck (ie the last photo) and players from both teams try to get the ball (if on defence msut5 be standing and coming in from straight on) which the girl in the black is trying to do while of your on the attacking side severl players just come in and try smash them back (sorta like linemen in nfl i guess (but protecting the ball instead of QB)) which is what the two girls in the red are trying/about to do andd this keeps going on and on.
VERY VERY INTENSE/physical game, very little stopages.
oh ya, first photo is of a line out, what happens when the ball goes over the side line. basically the teams make to rows and a player on the sideline (depends on certain rules from which team the) then calls a "play" and has to throw/loft the ball inbetween the two groups (must go straight inbetween the two groups, u cant favour ur team) at any hieght/speed they want to match their "play" and the other team tries to read it and intercept the lineout. ie in first pic girls in black trying to intercept the ball as its been thrown towards the girl in red being lifted up
very complex, should wiki it
ps and all this from an aussie who is a mad AFL fan (we play to many types of footy)
oh ya, like the photos especially the last one which shows some very crucial actions/efforts. i dont know about the first one, from this angle hard to see who is winning linout
