C&C Appreciated! This was only my 2nd season. It took forever to try to upload these to this site directly from my computer so I am linking them from my facebook so they are not quite as clear as the originals are.

nwagirl,

Very nice, I like all of them, but I think 3 is my fav.

Did/Do you sell to these racers?

Yep, racers and fans. I set up a table at the track.

Fine job of panning. I would say my main critique is that they are all "similar".

Thanks Jeff. I agree, I have other angles but of the sprints that weekend those were my two 'best' I thought.

That being said, much variety I find is difficult at the circle track, I want to get on the other sides of the cars but right past the wall it drops off in the corners and there's fence along the straightaways. I try to move around the infield to all different areas but it does all seem like the shots are mostly too similar. I wish I could find a way to change it up more. =/

I agree 100%. Shooting circle tracks is very hard, if you don't want the same shot time and time again. Sometimes I find myself walking in circles (literally) looking for something to help me get a different view.

My priority is editorial and not to sell to the teams or fans. If I were, I would not change how I shoot. There are several photographers who do sell to the teams and to be honest with you, if I were to show you a shot from one photographer, you would not be able to tell if it was his or one of the two or three other guys that are selling there as well. And more importantly (at least for me) you wouldn't know what track it was. Certainly, not every shot is going to be a portfolio shot and it is in nature, very repetitive. But, it needs to be covered from start to finish.

My shots are not for everyone, but you can get an idea of what I do at my local track:

I agree w/ what you said about not being able to tell one photographer from another, I find that here too. I am the only photog at my track, but I've seen the other local tracks photog's work and we're all pretty similar. I try to use a really really slow shutter speed b/c it appeared to me they weren't. I like the affect and I think it gives my pics some slight variety over theirs, but very slight. But overall it appears we are all catching the same kinds of shots. Unfortunately variety mostly comes in the form of a wreck. =/

Your site is book marked. I like your shots, looks like you've got it covered including the line-ups, pit areas, etc. I have done some but it helps to see other perspectives so thanks for sharing. i will refer to it during this off season and try to see if I can come up w/ ways to set my shots apart more next season.

Another key point is the light you had in #1 & 3. Stake out that corner & shoot like crazy when you get it. ;)
