Thank you. I'm no longer monitoring this thread.

I have been making DVD slide shows of dog and nature pictures to show to Seniors on the TV in the common room of a nursing home. A few residents who have DVD players in their own rooms also have access to these DVDs. In addition, I am booked to receive training in palliative care, to visit individuals in their homes with a therapy dog. A DVD slide show showing the life and times of the therapy dog would likely be well received by the palliative client.

I am using CyberLink Power Producer, v3, which came with my DVD burner. Most of the images appear to be displayed correctly on any PC or TV – the screen is maximized to the constraining dimension and the other dimension seems to be set to the same aspect ratio as the cropped image. On occasion, however, in a few of the images that have been cropped to achieve effective composition, a bit of width seems to have been lost in display.

Comments on the following would be much appreciated:

1. Will any normal system capable of displaying a DVD slide show display the correct aspect ratio of all images, and if not, should I crop them to some standard aspect ratios?

2. Both CyberLink Power Producer and most TVs require me to choose an aspect ratio, either 4:3 and 16:9. It appears that (1) the display will be the same, whether I choose to produce in 4:3 or in 16:9 and (2) in both cases the TV should be set at 4:3. Which aspect ratio should I choose for the DVD production?

3. Different PCs and different TVs display the images in different resolutions. I would prefer to to minimize file size on my hard drive and the DVD, and to reduce the risk of having my precious images stolen (smile). Considering the modest viewing requirements of my current users, how should I manage the pixel dimensions and compression of the slide show images?

Regards,

Peter
