View Full Version : NEW FLASH QUESTION...

Up until now, I haven't had an unwavering need for a flash. I've been shooting, primarily, live bands under existing lighting conditions. However, lately I've been taking "promo" shots for bands, and find that I like to have the flash for fill.

The problem arises in that, on my 20-35mm, the flash casts a shadow when I use the lens hood. I've taken some shots without the hood, but have noticed some minor flare that I'm not all too enthusiastic about.

What's a good, solid, general purpose flash that will do what I need it to do? I don't want to spend gads of cash, but I don't want to buy crap, either. Also, I'd like to have the option of being able to use it on a bracket.

Any suggestions?

Thanks...

Steve

If you just need a flash for fill, the 420ex might be good enough for your purpose. It's around $180. See review below:

You may also want to consider the 550ex, which is a more powerful one. The downside is that it's around $310.

Hope it helps.
