Check out the Canon SX10 IS (http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/SX10IS/SX10ISA.HTM) and SX20 IS (http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/SX20IS/SX20ISA.HTM).

However, be aware that even the best digital point-and-shoot cameras have a major disadvantage for action photography when compared to DSLR's. It's not image quality, but decisive framing. Point-and-shoot cameras use LCD screens that have a noticeable lag: what you see on the screen is delayed at least a fraction of a second from what's happening in front of you. That display lag can mean trouble with accurate and decisive framing of action sequences. Point-and-shoots also can be slower in cycling between shot sequences. For those reasons, DSLR's are generally better than point-and-shoots for action.

The big issue is the shutter lag between the time you press the button and the time the shutter actually opens and closes. Means you have to anticipate the action about a second or so before it actually happens. I started with a point and shoot and soon gave it up as a bad job.

Is there such a thing??
I never knew that the words "best", "point and shoot" and "road racing" could go in the same sentence.

its far from ideal, that's for sure. you have to get the timing right, and prefocus. The focus system probably won't be able to keep up with fast moving cars.

Very impressive shots, taking in account thats it's been done with a P&S camera.
I'm guessing that the keeper rate was quite low?

Cyber-shot Digital Camera HX1, 10 frames per sec. I think it got like no buffer though

The keeper rate wasn't as bad as I expected actually. I think I was concentrating so hard to get good pics with such a limited camera that I was able to get more from each single picture.

No experience with this series but I always thought it would be cool to use one of these. With as many shots as they can take, you can just start shooting and hope that one of the shots comes out the way you want. :)

I would be cool to take the high speed vids and watch them in slow mo.
