does anyone here have a recommendation for communication headsets?

I have a need for some communication headsets, to be used in high noise environments. A single earcup with microphone wireless set up would be best, allowing communication and ability to hear outside sounds also. There are several options available relying on a cell phone, but I can't rely on reception and my current carrier doesn't offer phone to phone walkie talkie capabilities.
I am looking at Eartech, unless someone has had a poor experience with them they would like to share, or someone has a better brand to look at.
I don't need a very powerful set, the headsets will be a maximum of 20' apart 99% of the time.
Any input from anyone with suggestions will be appreciated.

Does it have to be hands free?
A TON of Motorola walkies can be found cheap on Ebay.. They use the 2 prong headsets with a PTT (Push to Talk) button.
Your requirement of 20' max range means you don't need nearly as powerful a walkie as I use for Paintball (2Watt units that broadcast LONG distances).

Some of my teammates love the VOX capabilities; but you can't use that if you're already in a loud environment.

Look on ebay; you can find some sets cheap. Once you settle on a walkie; you can choose the headset. There are a ton to choose from.. In our experience; the over ear model does a good job in 'noisy' environments of paintball.

I am going to use them in an open jet boat. the motor is very loud for me, standing in the back of the boat running the tiller, not so bad up front. Jets lift clear of the water so they don't get the advantage of a submerged exhaust. It is impossible for me to hear anything the passenger is saying, I have to yell to be heard. we need an open ear to hear other boats and such, and hands free is a requirement we have to meet. I was thinking about using one of those push to talk style with the button down all the time. With two sets, my mic would be constantly in the passengers ear, theirs in mine, right?

Most Walkie Talkies are NOT full duplex. It would be better to look into a closed loop system instead of Walkies.

Look at noise cancelling headsets. Numerous manufacturers have them. More expensive though . . .
