Hello everyone, considering getting an Epson P-2000 for use out in the field and I'm just wondering how it's battery life is?
How many 1gb CF cards could I transfer onto it with a single charge? Thanks!

I have not really tested this but I think I have transferred at least 3 times 2 gb before I charged.

Check out the detailed review of the P2000 on http://www.luminous-landscape.com/reviews/accessories/P-2000.shtml - he reckons 13 1GB cards per charge..
Oh, and Tommy, I have voted! :)

I bought one just over a week ago to take on hols
Used it on the plane to listen to mp3's used it every night to transfer images
in total transfered about 5 GB from various cards
listened to about 3 hrs of music in hotel room..
viewed the images on screen lots and on the hotels tv in our room
used it on the plane home (mp3's again... 3 hour flight)
All that on one charge (the first too)

Hehe I did not put that in my signature because I have a photo submitted, just to remind people to vote. With so many users here I think only about 40 votes is very low.

Woah! Sounds like this thing has some pretty sweet battery life! I was just worried that'd I'd only be able to get 3-6 transfers out of it, and that'd be it. Nice to know that I can listen to about three hours of Mp3's, download a couple gigs, and do some other stuff on a single charge! :-) This thing just keeps on sounding better, and better! Expensive though..... could get my macro for the same cash, but oh well. Epson would be pretty nice.
I always like to look at my pics to see if they're under exposed, over exposed OOF, if the DOF is off, ect so I can reshoot them if I need too. That's like, close to impossible to do accurately on the 20D's tiny little screen! Drives me insane, so I've been carrying around my big heavy laptop and downloading them onto that.
So, I guess my second question would be, is the screen on this truely large, and sharp enough to determine if the pictures are what I want them to be?

Well its quite large as the spec says its 3.8 inches or 95 mm on the diagonal
however my 20d images end up as 42x57 mm portrait or 76 x 52 landscape or 68 and 92mm on the diagonal
you can of course zoom in and scroll round
I'd say its sharp enough for good focus confirmation
I bought mine from staples in the uk got a really good price
manager showed me it out of display case and admitted that they were desperate to get some cash in if i bought it that day they had lots in stock....

The Screen is amazing, very good quality - but it can't zoom in if you shoot RAWs and you will need the firmware update for the 350 I think.
A word of caution, I have found that pics, although displayed v well, look a little dark on the Epson. I was worried I was underexposing but later checking them on my monitor they were fine.

You can correct the lcd brightness to correct that.

Hands down the Epson is the man! Well sort of, you get my point. If your going to drop some cash on a storage device don't be worried. I was not going to get the Epson, but after seeing the screen I was so so sold on it. It is amazingly bright, beautiful, & battery life is very acceptable. I showed a couple pics to my wife who knows nothing about anything to do with photography & equipment and the first thing she said was.."the screen looks great..."

WHOOOOOHOOOOO I love epson products. All my printers are epson. Just got my p2000 yesterday! Whoa what a peice of kit this is. Now I can go on vacation with out worrying about sufficient CF memory.
Been playing with this device and IT ROCKS. The only thing I dont like is that you cant zoom on RAW files, well cant slide show them either (but dint give a rats butt about that). Zooming to check focus would be nice. BUT with the large display, you can see alot of flaws in the raw files. I have switched over to RAW + jpeg to check focus and show my wifes family the picks in a slide show on vacation. This thing makes you the ultimate chimp.
Other than software and raw functionality, My only design complaints is that there is not a flip up, sun shade-screen protector like on some PDA's.
Anyone want to buy some CF cards?

just saw this (http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1032&message=13747810) on dpreview and thought it may be useful info. to me it's not a big problem, more of a user training issue. :p nevertheless it sucks to lose pictures.

Thanks everyone, and I read that link rent. A little scary, but never the less there's always a defective model put on the shelfs out there. So, maybe this guy is just one in a million. That's what I'm hoping cause I'm looking to buy one by the end of the month. :-) And then that's it! Haha, no more spending! Buying stuff is sooooo addictive.......

Has anyone seen a comparison between the P-2000 and any of the Archos devices? I want to purchase a storage device before a safari in September and would love to see a comparison.

Oh yes! Time to burn the wallet, burry the wallet, and then set off a bomb ontop of the wallet. :-)
And thanks d110pickup for bringing that up! I'm also curious about the Archos device. With a 100 gig hard drive and a 7 inch screen it's definately an eye opener. If no one posts about it, you should start a thread about it, and let me know. :-)

Do You mean the AV700 ? http://www.archos.com/products/prw_500716_specs.html
That sounds almost too good to be true....
This device has some major drawbacks:
- no cardreader which means You can only transfer Your photos by connecting the camera directly to the device. Not very usefull since You tie the camera to the device and can't photograph while offloading photos. Or You have to add a external cardreader like the Ipod photo which again in my opinion is completely rediculous.
- only support jpeg and bmp. NO raws.
As a photobank for offloading in the field I give this a thumb down.

Tommy, I know that - the screen brightness is fine - its just my pics tend to look al ittle underexposed on the Epson compared to on my monitor.
I would recommend upgrading the firmware then you get a histpogram on the Epson too (only for JPEGs though)
