Hi everyone.
With the rubbish UK autumn now showing up I treated myself to some Flex tt's this month, so been having a play over the last few weeks with them. Well heres a few results, now there are selling really well & with a bit more time, hopefully perfect some technique.
So a bit of C&C welcome from you purists. Cheers

Interesting results. I quite like them. The mid air shots like #6 look almost 'staged' in a studio.

Cheers everyone, saw some stuff by an Adam Duckworth a while ago, thought this technique might keep sales going through winter. I prefer the motion shots better, but the riders seem to prefer the sharper images.
The flex tt's are brilliant, fragile but brilliant.
Thanks again for your comments, know i'm heading in the right direction..

The speedlites are set, about 4m in front of the point where you think your rider will be & 4m behind. In some shots a third speedlite was on camera.
Images 11 & 7 were taken from the top of the next jump about 40m away with two speedlites in front.
#6 I really did like this one, with motion think it would have been better.

I really like #1, #3 and #11, they don't have that obvious flash look, just look well lit. I think they look great!

wow love this set, flash setup really illuminates the subjects in a nice dramatic way, feels like their on stage at a concert lol

Cheers Dave, #1 was a bit of a luck one.. I knocked the group setting on one flex, the one behind (as in photo) never fired.

Cheers, can't wait for some stormy days, hopefully with some moody skies, should make them even more dramatic.
Thanks

Great shots, one and six get my vote too. I take it they are taken at Washbrook Farm?

Some nice new looks! Have to ask though your using a 40D how are you shooting flash at those shutter speeds ? I can only go up to 1/320th of a second off camera on my 40D

Cheers, most were taken at Washbrook Farm, great place, I work there every Saturday as a photographer, have done for the last year.
The first is from mildenhall, one from Market Harborough, one from Milton Malsor.

Thanks for the comments, yes using a 40d, with 3 flex tt's (pocket wizards) these allow me to shoot up to 1/8000th as they support HSS.
But I was shooting manually off a couple of triggers off ebay, got some good results.

#1 was taken with one from the left, most of the rest have been taken using two flashes off camera, a couple have had a extra flash on the camera aswell.

Really nice work! Very inspiring.
I think High Speed Sync on the Speedlights will allow you to use any shutter speed as well.

You've got good lighting, but you've gotta ease up on the tilted camera thing. My head hurts...

I love some of these shots, but the tilting angles are too extreme for me on the rest. The tilting works on the first shot, but many of the others just make my eyes hurt as I try to bring the bike into a believable angle, or try and figure out how the trees could be growing at a 45 degree angle.
Subtle tilting can work really well at enhancing the angle of lean to make the rider look like they're going faster, but obvious tilting is a little bit like difference between a lady wearing a slightly thicker bra to enhance things, and someone who blatantly has half a box of tissues in each cup.
