Hello everybody and especially to the 60 f/2.8 owners !

Could you give us some information & feedback of this (rumored to be) magnificent lens ? I'm going to get one soon; meanwhile, I've been doing some close-up of flowers with my 50 f/1.8 MkII and Hoya Magnifying filters.

Greetings

I've got it an absolutely love, it's tack sharp and the internal focusing is great! Sometimes I wish I had more working distance, but I've still been able to get plenty of insects at 1:1 with no problem. I'm waiting on funds to order my extension tubes, where people report it can do roughly 2.5:1, and I am super excited about that.
All in all, I'm extremely happy I purchased this lens. I almost spent much more on the 100mm macro, but this suits me just fine!

Hello, Thor

My copy of the EF-S 60mm F2.8 macro lens has certainly exceeded all my expectations – it is a wonderfully sharp lens. I have attached a couple of examples taken with this lens on my Canon 40D using the on-board flash. They are from a single photo as follows:

1. A central crop of the eyes, 800x600, from the full resolution (3888x2590 @ 72dpi) view in CS4.
2. Full frame re-sampled to 800x600 to show the complete field of view.

The shot was taken under almost ideal conditions. The dragonfly didn’t move and the camera was tripod mounted and I had plenty of time to gradually creep up on the insect.

I would have liked (afford!) the Canon 100mm F2.8 for increased working distance and better background blur.

Cheers

Dennis

Wonderfully sharp. Beautiful Bokeh. I know it's not a macro shot but I just LOVE this lens for EVERYTHING!

Wonderful shots, guys. Soon I'll own one, too !
There are reviews that say its sharper than the Canon 100 mm ! I just wanted to make sure.

How well does it focus on more distant subjects, not macro? And in low light? I'm thinking of using it for indoors sports with a 7D.

Hey, I've been looking at the Sticky Post <<Macro DSLR Speed Challenge Winners >> in this Forum !

A good part of the superb shots there have been done with the 60mm f/2.8. I guess you get lots of answers on my question by just looking at those photos.

Sure, I had use one while my MPE-65mm was at Canon service for repair. Excellent color and contrast, IMHO better than the 100mm macro and only slightly less than the MPE (I own all of those lenses). Here are some sample images, all taken with extension tubes and a diffused MT-24EX:
