I think that Sigma make two version of that size lens. The other one is a constant f/2.8. Pop Photo had a review on it recently.

Im sure various cameras were used for those shots. www.pbase.com is a photo database that photographers use to share their photos (some amateur some professional). Alot of the photos have exif information, or will at least tell you what camera was used for the photo. You can view photos by keyword, camera make, lense make, etc. Its a pretty cool photo database.
I don't have a dslr yet :(, but I have been doinng much research and toying around at photo shops to see what lense(s) I will get with my 20d purchase. I think I have decided on a Sigma 18-50 f/2.8, Canon 50 f/1.8 and a Sigma 70-200 f/2.8 HSM for a little later down the road.

It's basically the same specs as the kit lens - fantastic plastic, but with 9" focusing distance and more to the outside body of the lens. It's probably a good value for the $99 price though I haven't used it. The kit lens does great too.

ok, i guess what im looking for is a good W I D E lens.. preferably with a zoom... say 15mm - 20 0r 30 mm?? or something close.. a good lens with AF that wont "break the bank" any suggestions??
Oh, by the way, I hate E-bay... what with all the lenses .. they seem waaay over priced for something like this.. you can get them for like 5 or 10 bucks more from B&H and at least they are brand new with a warranty!!

I've had the Sigma 18-50/3.5-5.6 DC for a year now. It was my starter lens - I still have it but I use it very seldom these days.
It's definitely sharp.
It vignettes slightly at corners when stopped down - I have only noticed this once: dark blue sky of christmas eve eg low light landscape shot situation at F8.
Still very good value for the money.

I've been using the Sigma 15-30mm 3.5-4.5 EX DG for more than a year now. No complaints. (Using it with 10D and 20D).
cheers,

I've been using the 18-125mm DC f3.5-5.6 Sigma lens, it's an excellent general use lens for my needs, and ideal choice for the price well under $300 when I got mine last January. I have no complaints for a lens this small and economically priced.
However, I would likely avoid the 18-50mm DC f3.5-5.6, unless I had a D30/60-10D and really needed a cheap lens to work below 24-28mm range. However for ~$50 I would expect the lens to perform as well as a $50 lens could be expected.

tell me MRchad, with your camera... do you feel the shots come out of the camera a little on the "soft" side?? Im looking for a really sharp lens.I dont know if this is the problem or not but, im using a 350D and before this, i was using the Pro1... both 8MP but the pro1 has an "L" lens on it. Is there that much of a difference between the "L" lenses and the normal lenses? It just seems to me that Im seeing less sharpness and a tad bit more noise... even at ISO 100. But, the pro1 does go to ISO 50 so i just might be used to that?? Just curious!

You won't really find "great" lenses for $100.

You have the kit lens, 18-55. You don;t need another lens that covers the same range and in certainly no better than the kit one.
The 18-125 however is reportedly a very good lens... if you struggle on the long end of the kit lens consider that one.
