Keep in mind additional cost (tax & shipping). Newegg, unless if you live in California, (and a few other states) is tax free. I can't recall J&R's tax policy.

Depending on applicable tax rate, shipping cost and aggregate of the two, lower priced items could end up becoming bad deals as do lower spec items may end up costing more.

What about the difference in DDR2 vs DDR3? Significant?

j&r is NYC only, like B&H

Right. So NYS residents like myself just cannot reap the benefit of their selection, service, and pricing (not stellar, but factoring in relative ease with which they handle return policy is worth it when investing in a big-ticket item - same goes for B&H).

It's definitely a place to visit as the store basically owns Park Row, across from the City Hall. I used to live downtown Manhattan so many walks around the neighborhood included a requisite stop at one of their stores.

I digressed, anyhow. But check the tax policy for JR outside of NYS anyways. For example, beginning last year, Amazon started tacking on sales taxes for certain (or all?) items shipped to customers in the NYS.

Difference between DDR2 and DDR3? Price. If one wants to dig deeper, then here's one of the articles:

First off, check to see the compatibility with the motherboard in case if you feel the urge to switch from one to the other for whatever reason.

As Eugene's link above points out, DDR3 is definitely geared for the new i7 Intel technology. I know for Core 2 Duo's, you're paying considerably more for very little little gain (vs. DDR2). I'm not so sure about Core 2 Quads.
