Lens choosing for IWM Duxford airshow, if it works at Duxford then most other shows will be a doddle !

400mm sounds perhaps necessary from feedback so far and talking to peeps, as I thought, though to be able to stay with 300 is tempting weight wise and price wise perhaps ! If 400 then its the Canon 100-400 liftable at 1.3kg, or Sigma 50-500 Bigma 1.8kg and I dont look forward to holding that up to the sky all day, and monopod is tricky when on stepstool and useless perhaps as the aircraft climb, often the best shots.

What about the Sigma 80-400 EX APO OS, its got image stabilise but at 1.7kg though its heavy compared to 1.3Kg 100-400 IS or 650g of the 75-300, but less than the 1.8kg Bigma 50-500 which has no IS and what use is 500mm if 1/250 is max for prop blur, that OS (optical stablise) buys one or two stops so 1/250 at 400 is ok but not on the bigma ), that 80-400 with OS is affordable at £780 as I saw it at today.

Whats that lens like, anyone ...? Does it make more sense to gain the extra 20 at one end or do you find that 100 gets the taxiing spits in? I would imagine though that those on the peri track right in front would require a lens swop to a 17-40 etc ? Perhaps when they swing onto grass the 100 is ok ? Any exifs and gen on whats required much sought after.

Can anyone confirm or post some shots (if possible here) and exif ?

i use my 100-400 for rowing regattas, and its weight isn't a problem to be honest. if you are worried get a monopod...
the optical clarity is outstanding - I projected my images onto a screen 10 feet high and they're great!
