I recently had to turn down a wedding at Atholl Palace (http://www.athollpalace.co.uk/) in Scotland as I'll be on the other side of the world, I ried to get them to fly me over but to no avail. This venue looks absolutely incredible, a geunine old palace / castle, a photographer's dream and prime portfolio material.
It got me wondering what sort of jobs some of you guys have had to turn down due to scheduling clashes or similar.
What's the best wedding you never shot?

The only thing I've had to turn down as of now is Key West. Not missing to much there. I had a wedding the day before and there is no way I would risk plane delay or something and miss the wedding.
I would just suck it up and use the money I made off the wedding and pay my own way. Make a vacation out of it or something. Maybe get them to pay for half of plane tickets if you can to help cut cost. If you're legal you can write it all off! :) Obviously that doesn't mean you get it all back... not even close, but it does help.

Yeah, did think about that, but it's a 24+ hour flight each way so you want to make it worthwhile and stay at least 2 weeks. The catch is I've been living in the UK for 6 years but will be returning home to Australia in a month and it's kinda hard to justify 2 weeks holiday to an expensive place you've just spent 6 years at.

Billo,
Atholl Palace is okay, it's not that great, but then I shoot castles a lot, and it gets a bit you know, boring, but then the grass is always greener ...
I long for a wedding on a stunning golden beach with an Australian sunset in the background !!

Haha, yeah, you're right Jim, as an Aussie I didn't grow up with castles so they're still fascinating and would impress Australian brides with their exoticness. I'm also looking forward to shooting that beach wedding you're talking about having never shot a wedding in Australia, I'll need to spend a bit of time getting used to the different light, the soft diffused light over here has been a bit of a luxury, next stop harsh shadows and blown out whites.
