I just ordered a Canon 430 EX II (should be here any day now) to use on my 5D. I was considering the 580ex II but didn't think I would need all the power and features. Anyhow, I was wondering if the 430 II will be okay in high humidity environments (SE Asia).
As you guys might already know, the humidity there ranges from at least 60%-80/90% with the colder months being a little bit better. So will I be okay with the 430 EX II or should I return it and get a 580 EX II? Please keep your opinion objective for this particular situation only. Thank you!

Well my 2 cents rain will kill the 580 or 430 i have seen it happen....
Humidity i would think that should not be a problem as long as you take some measures such as if leaving an air condition environment wrap the camera in a plastic bag loosely and when you get out into the humidity and moisture condenses it will so mostly on your plastic bag not so much in your camera or flash .....
Check with Canon for operating conditions ....
That being said a don't think a few drops would kill it...One of the biggest mistakes people make with
wet electronic gear is to try and restart it before it has thoroughly dried out

I live in the deep south, and I had no problems with my gear. The main thing is trying to keep the temperature the same or close, at all times. Going from air conditioning to humid air quickly will cause problems. Use the bag trick, or keep your gear outside of the AC areas or just be prepared to "condition" you equipment before use (basically wait for your gear to warm up before using it).
I have 580s now, but I also used 430s and had no issues more than a 580 would.

Thanks for the opinions guys! I'll go ahead and stick with the 430 and see how it pans out. Based on what you guys have said it sounds like it's gonna be okay.

My 430 II works fine in what has been described as "the humid temperate jungles" of Singapore ;)
